Neutral Fall Decor

I love Fall but as I’ve gotten older don’t necessarily like the traditional “orange and black” color scheme that’s associated with it. Don’t get me wrong I love the color orange and I wear too much black – but I love to decorate with neutrals. Neutral colors have a calming effect on me and because they are easier to mix and match, they make decorating your home on a budget a breeze! So in case you haven’t started decorating yet or need more ideas, I’ve compiled some easy and affordable ways to decorate your home for the Fall season.

Use nature!

Fall is the perfect time to decorate with nature itself, and expand outside the typical fresh or dried flower arrangement. Natural decor is also usually neutral so it fits in with the theme ! The most obvious for the season are gourds and pumpkins but you can also get creative and use dried corn, twigs, acorns, and pinecones.  All of these items would look pretty in elegant glass apothecary jars or styled on a shelf.

Buy white wax candles

If you’re a lover of fall scented candles buy the ones with white wax. I love getting vanilla, pumpkin, and cinnamon scents from Marshall’s for cheap. Because they’re white,  you can then still use them during Christmas and won’t have to worry about using up an orange or black candle before the end of the season.

Paint your old decor

Now, if you already have fall decor that you want to give a new look or make more “neutral” —  use paint ! I was gifted this cute ceramic pumpkin candle holder, and while I loved the style, it was very orange, and just didn’t go with anything else in my house. Because I had chalk paint left over from an old project I gave the pumpkin a makeover and now love how it looks! It took only 20 minutes to do!

Change things up with pillow cases

You’d be surprised to see that just changing your pillows can have a big impact on a room. I just bought this cute “hello fall” pillow from Target and love the bit of brightness it adds. Another budget friendly trick is to buy pillow covers instead of pillows. Pillow cases are cheaper and this way I don’t worry about storing a bunch of bulky pillows in my house.  You can find so many great options on Etsy !

Add just small pops of color

Now I know I said I love neutrals for my decor but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate little bits of color here and there. For a cheerful pop of the traditional orange, I love to use mini pumpkins and scatter them around the house.
