Introducing Painting Lovely

I love all things old fashioned. Things like letter writing, candlelight, and hand drawn sketches. A few months ago when in Montreal, I indulged my taste for the old fashioned and had my portrait sketched. I loved the final product so much and wanted to get one of Ted and I to hang in our living room. I wasn’t sure who to go to but I follow a few Instagrammers with artistic abilities so kept my eye out for someone I’d like to work with.

Eventually Elizabeth from Painting Lovely shared some of her sketches on Instagram and I immediately reached out to see if she’d want to take a commission from me! Luckily she agreed and I’m excited to get to know her during the process.

Elizabeth writes the newly branded lifestyle blog True Pure & Lovely but she also has an art focused Insta page called Painting Lovely to showcase her artistic work! Her work has two distinct styles. Some of her work is whimsical and colorful, like a fairytale. And then there are her black and white portrait sketches that have character in them that I liked. Both are lovely indeed (no pun intended) 🙂

I sent over a picture of Ted and I smooching in front of the Eiffel Tower when we visited Paris and Elizabeth created the most amazing illustration! I love how it turned out and it is hanging in my living room.

Below is a little more about Elizabeth in her own words.

Tell us about yourself !

I’m a wife, a mom to a baby girl, an artsy book-lover who loves Jesus and baked goodies! I’ve done my fair share of traveling and living in different countries, but Canada is home base.

How did you get into art? Are you self-taught or have you taken some classes?

I started from a very young age, basically before I can remember. I was just always interested in coloring and then drawing. I was terrible. I would draw in books, on walls, on my clothes…eventually I honed my skills, took art in school, and just spent hours and hours learning illustration, portrait drawing, digital art, photoshop, etc.

What types of art do you offer (water colors, portraits, etc)?

Pencil or inked illustrations, portraits, water color, and combinations of all three! I used to produce a great deal of digital art, including logos and water marks, but I’m embracing traditional art again for now.

What is your favorite thing to draw?

I love to make illustrations, mostly of girls and women, because we honestly have such beautiful shapes and features! I also love drawing clothes and hair, it’s just so fun for me. Then of course I will never say no to drawing fairies, mermaids, unicorns, etc.

You also have a blog — tell us about your blog !

I did travel blogging for two years, but over the years its evolved into a lifestyle blog as well. After a little bit of editing and rethinking design, I’m super excited about the new blog True Pure & Lovely It focuses on Christian faith, motherhood and lifestyle.

Thank you to Elizabeth for taking the time to answer my questions and partner with me on this post!
