Reviving Christmas Traditions

A baby’s first Christmas is always special. Probably more so for the parents because let’s be honest no baby remembers their first Christmas. Growing up I always loved the holidays and have many happy Christmas memories. The food, decorating, family gatherings, everything was built around tradition. When you get a little older sometimes the holidays can loose a bit of their magic, but with Will here now I find myself wanting to revive all the old magic as much as I can. And share with him some traditions both new and old. So this year will be a bit quiet since he can’t really participate yet, but next year I’m implementing the following!

The Old

  • Opening treats from Advent calendars
  • Making paper chains to decorate the house with (remember those with the red and green construction paper?)
  • Enjoying the food on Wigilia (the special dinner held on Christmas Eve if you’re Polish)
  • Opening presents on Christmas Eve (we always followed the Polish tradition)
  • Visiting Santa
  • Christmas coloring books
  • Midnight Mass at Christmas Eve
  • Watching all the Christmas classics (White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life….)
  • Getting a real Christmas tree and decorating it all night
  • Cutting snowflakes out of paper and hanging them around the house

The New

  • Elf on the shelf !
  • Crafting new ornaments
  • Baking Christmas cookies
  • Decorating gingerbread houses
  • Reading the “Night Before Christmas” on Christmas Eve
  • Christmas pajamas!
  • Visiting Chicago to see the holiday decor

What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions?!? What do I need to add to this list !?
