Lightscape at the Chicago Botanic Gardens

A few weeks ago I was invited to visit Lightscape at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. The trees, small ponds, and other floral fauna of the gardens are made even more beautiful by the twinkling displays of Lightscape. Interested in going? Well than read on to check out some of the beautiful sights and learn how to book your tickets this year.

The Details

Lightscape is an illuminating, artistic, holiday light display that enhances the beauty of the Botanic Gardens. Originating in London the event is making its US debut right here in Chicago’s famous Botanic Gardens. How lucky are we? Prepare to walk through twinkling lights set to cheerful holiday music and calming choral pieces.

Tips for a great visit
  • Lightscape runs from November 22 – January 5
  • You can purchase tickets at this link.
  • The event is open between the hours of 4:30 pm – 10:00 pm.
  • Tickets are timed so make sure to show up at the time slot that you signed up for!
  • Ticket prices vary depending on the time and day of the week that you choose, but the price never goes above $25 per person. Tickets for children are discounted as well!
  • Buying tickets before hand is best if you want to avoid a $2 surcharge.
  • The path is a mile long, stroller/wheel chair friendly, and takes about an hour to walk through.
  • Hot drinks and snacks are available. Be sure to pick up a hot chocolate and some s’mores!

My Favorite Sites

Waterfall of Light

Set within the Japanese garden this display is gorgeous and so calming to view!

Ribbons of Light

This is the most interactive of the displays and a kid favorite. Seeing their faces light up as they played with the color changing ribbons was a highlight.

Cathedral of Light

My favorite display and probably the most famous! The cathedral of light is set to gorgeous choral music and makes for amazing holiday scenery.

Overall this is a fantastic event and one that I hope comes to the Chicago Botanic Gardens every year. Thank you so much to the Chicago Botanic Gardens and I hope I’ve convinced you to visit Lightscape this year! It’s such a great time for everyone. So bundle up, grab one of the cups of hot chocolate, and enjoy the twinkling lights. Happy Holidays !
