My At Home Facial

I love skincare and wanted to share a new facial routine that I’ve started this year. Every other month I get regular facials at a local salon (in fact I just went this weekend with my sister!), but also needed something I could do regularly. After some research I devised my own at home facial plan. My skin and my wallet now thank me!

It all started when I was visiting Sephora to update my concealer. The girl that was helping me find my color casually asked “do you exfoliate?” But she did it in a way where I could tell she was kindly saying “girl, you need to exfoliate.” I was mortified, my winter skin gets so dry that its hard to keep stay hydrated. Despite this embarrassment, I have to thank her because she recommended an exfoliator that has made my winter skin so happy! It’s the Fresh Sugar Face Polish. Since using it, I’ve noticed my skin is smoother, more luminescent, and feels exactly the way it does after my facials. I’m hooked!

So here’s my routine and the products I’m using.

Facial Instructions

1. Wash your skin and remove  all of your makeup.

2. Apply the sugar scrub to your face and gently rub the grains against your forehead, nose, and chin. These are the areas for me that require the most “smoothing.” This scrub is a little expensive but I swear I see a difference from this compared to other exfoliators I’ve used (St. Ives, homemade scrubs, etc.).

The grains in this scrub are smaller (it contains brown sugar and strawberry seeds) and exfoliates your skin more gently. It also smells amazing. It as an herbaly, sweet scent that I find energizing and fresh (no pun intended). Continue massaging the scrub into your face for about a minute and then let the scrub sit on your face for five minutes like a mask.

3. After five minutes dampen your hand towel with hot water from the faucet – make sure its very hot. Apply it to your face for 10 to 15 minutes and steam your face. This will open your pores. I usually end up laying on the floor of my bathroom and listening to music while doing this. You could also do some breathing exercises and use this time to relax and rest.

4. Once the towel has cooled off and its no longer “steaming” your face – apply the rose toner to your face with a cotton swab. I use Thayer’s Rose Petal Toner every morning and night and love it. You can’t beat the price ($8!) and it makes your skin feel moisturized.

5. Finish off with a facial oil of your choice. Now that your pores are open from the steam it will sink in and hydrate your newly polished skin. I love the Noni Glow Face Oil from Kora Organics which was founded by Miranda Kerr. Her skin is luminescent so if she uses it I’m game.

It has an amazing “piney” scent and makes my skin feel so hydrated. It’s admittedly expensive, but like I’ve said before I’m always willing to spend more on skincare. A good alternative to Kora’s Noni Glow is almond oil. It’s much more affordable and a good alternative. It’s a lighter oil so doesn’t make your face feel sticky.

6. Enjoy your smooth and hydrated face ! I’ve been doing this once a week and my skin this winter has been much happier.

Let me know if you try this or any of the products. I’m super interested to see how this works for ladies with oily skin.
